What to do in case of loss of personal belongings on vacation
What to do in the case of forgotten things in the hotel, lost luggage or stolen passport.
Pets, wedding rings or even an urn with ashes! The list of unusual “losers” can be continued indefinitely. How to act if your items are on such a list or your suitcase at the airport did not arrive with you? Let’s talk about pravttouristov.
Imagine that the following situation has happened to you: on returning home from a holiday, you open a suitcase and discover the loss of your favorite dress. In all likelihood, you forgot it in the hotel. How to get it back?
The charter of hotels does not provide an item that obliges to send forgotten personal belongings to tourists. In Germany, according to the law, hotels must keep personal belongings forgotten by their guests for at least six months. This greatly facilitates the life of those tourists who travel on vouchers purchased from German tour operators. But those who drive independently are forced to depend on the laws and regulations of the federal states. During the specified storage period, travelers can pick up their belongings themselves or pay the cost of their delivery. Some hotels inform tourists about the possibility of returning personal items. Many are silent about this nuance. If the owners of things do not appear, each hotel comes with finds at its discretion: leave them to themselves or sold at auction for the purpose of charity.
Do not panic if the flight of your suitcase does not end on the baggage carousel. Lost luggage is often found within two days. Refer to the airport employee standing in the baggage department, show him your ticket with the baggage registration number. To avoid confusion and misunderstanding, describe your suitcase and its contents, fill in the loss protocol. Delivery of the found baggage to the specified address will be carried out for free.
In some cases, the passenger may be compensated for the delay in baggage in the form of a voucher for visiting a restaurant, various goods, etc. It depends on the ticket purchased and the airline. Specify this question in advance.
If the baggage is not returned within five days, the passenger has the right to demand monetary compensation.
In case of damage or loss of luggage can be insured.
In case of such trouble, contact your local police department for assistance and provide a copy of your passport to the embassy. In some countries, the victim must be informed of the loss of a passport to the immigration office. You can use your internal passport, driver’s license or birth certificate to verify your identity. To issue a new travel document, you must provide the appropriate passport photo to the consulate.
Take care of photos and copies of documents in advance. Place them in your carry-on baggage and suitcase.
We wish your rest to be a rest, not a search for missing items and documents!
